Lisnavagh House is one of those venues where you want to linger indefinitely. A large 19th century period house, it’s the definition of homeliness and splendor combined. Located in Co. Carlow just outside of Rathvilly, the house is just over an hour’s drive from Dublin. It steals your heart from the first view from the driveway and doesn’t let go. The house is yours for your wedding day, and with the flexibility of a catering company you can personalize your wedding day. It’s no wonder that Lisnavagh House wedding is always a really relaxing and unique celebration. The venue stole Jess’s and Paddy’s heart (like it did mine!), and their wedding couldn’t have been more personal!

The house is really spacious, with several drawing rooms and a gorgeous library on the ground floor. Upstairs there are 7 unique bedrooms, sleeping up to 14 guests. Getting Ready at Lisnavagh House

Every room in the house is a show-stopper. On my first visit I couldn’t stop exploring the house, photographing each and every corner! The bedrooms are all individually decorated and absolutely gorgeous. The main house sleeps 14 people. There’s plenty of room for you and your bridal party to get ready and enjoy the morning! Other bedrooms are available in the former stables and little cottages dotted around the ground. All in all, there is accommodation for up to 80 people. Jess and Paddy got ready on site, and it was a joy to capture their relaxing morning. Jess used to work as a make-up artist, so it’s no wonder her make up looks absolutely stunning! And it certainly makes for some unusual and lovely photos!

I fell absolutely in love with Jess’s romantic wedding dress. She told me she found it by chance in London and couldn’t get her eyes off it. I can see why! Standing there in a gorgeous period house, she really looks like someone off the pages of a Jane Austen novel.

      Lisnavagh House Wedding Ceremony

Among the grounds of Lisnavagh House hidden away is a gorgeous ceremony space. It’s actually hidden so well it took me a few attempts to locate it! The beautiful Brick Barn is a perfect spot for a wedding ceremony. There is lots of natural light coming through the skylights in the roof. Amongst other options of where you can hold your wedding ceremony are the lawns or the yew tree walk. But with Irish weather being so unpredictable, the covered space of the barn is getting more and more use. On Jess and Paddy’s wedding day we had to constantly watch the weather. The drizzle would start and stop with no warning. Thankfully, the stunning library in the main house was perfect for the backdrop of the first look.

The couple covered the brick barn with incredible flowers and greenery, turning the space into a romantic heaven. Their close friend officiated the ceremony, making it a really emotional, moving and personal celebration. Jess’s cousin elevated the ceremony with his amazing singing. The guests would comment for the rest of the day at how unique the ceremony was!

With a gorgeous house and extensive grounds, saying you are spoiled for choice would be an understatement. Every time I come back to Lisnavagh I find more and more amazing locations. The Yew Tree walk is probably the most stunning and unique. I love the way the speckled light shines through the branches on a sunny day. There are beautiful fields around the house, wisteria-covered walls and rhododendron bushes everywhere. Late spring and early summer are an amazing time for a wedding at Lisnavagh House. There are so many plants blooming and adding colour to your day. Even though Jess and Paddy’s day was quite overcast and a little rainy, we still found the time to take a walk around the gardens.

Even if the weather forces you to retreat inside the house, there are so many great spots. The bedrooms (and even the bathrooms!) are spacious and beautifully decorated. The library is one of the most beautiful room I’ve seen in Ireland. Filled with Ireland, gorgeous furniture and the warm tones of wood, it has the perfectly flattering light and colour for your skin tone.

      Wedding Reception at Lisnavagh House

With the house all to yourself and your wedding guests for the day, you also have full flexibility with food. The coordinator will give you several recommendations for catering companies, depending on your preferences and budget. You can have a lavish banquet, a rustic organic-focused dinner or a hog roast. You can personalize your menu to your dietary requirements and the style of wedding you’d like to organize. I love the way that not just the decor and the ceremony but even the food can reflect the couple’s personality! And what do guests remember best from a wedding, besides food and entertainment?

The wedding dinner is in the beautiful Garden Wing, seating up to 170 guests. The room is bright and spacious, beautifully set up with long tables and white table cloths. You can put your own stamp on the place with decor. If the schedule allows, Lisnavagh can allow access the week prior to your wedding day to put up the decorations. Jess and Paddy went with beautiful flower arrangements, colored candles, hand-written calligraphy table place names and a cheese cake that stole my heart!

If you’re just as in love with Lisnavagh House but planning an intimate wedding, there are midweek options available at a discounted price. The School Room, the Dining Room or the Library can all seat up to 35 guests. Even on a rainy day you can use the School Room for your wedding ceremony, and the Library for your drinks reception. There are open log fires in every space that will keep you and your guests nice and cosy.
