Summer Wedding at Powerscourt House: Aisling and Mike

Aisling and Mike’s summer wedding at Powerscourt House was full of everything they hoped for: joy, presence, meaningful details, and the people they love most gathered together in a place that holds deep significance for them. They travelled all the way from Boston to have their stunning garden wedding in the Garden County of Ireland.

From the beginning, they told me that what mattered most was being fully present – to soak up the day, each other, and the energy of their families and friends who travelled from near and far. Having everyone together in Ireland, where Aisling grew up, felt surreal and incredibly special. They wanted their wedding to feel like them: joyful, relaxed, and personal, with little touches woven throughout the day that reflected their personalities — from the music and food to the Boston shells incorporated into their décor (hand-painted by Aisling!)

Choosing Powerscourt House was an easy decision and a full-circle moment for Aisling, who spent her childhood visiting Glendalough and the Wicklow mountains. The idea of marrying nearby, now with her future husband, made the venue feel meaningful in a way no other place could. They loved that Powerscourt offered the perfect blend of convenience and magic: close enough to Dublin Airport for guests traveling internationally, yet surrounded by the peaceful beauty of the Irish countryside. The estate’s gardens, hotel, restaurants, distillery and green rolling hills reminded Aisling of her grandparents’ home – a place filled with happy memories. And once they saw the Ballroom and the house itself, they knew it was the right place for their celebration.

Their ceremony in the Marble Hall was beautifully emotional, filled with music from the Avoca String Quartet – a heartfelt tribute to Aisling’s late grandfather, whose love of classical music played a big part in her upbringing. Having the quartet there brought a piece of him into the day and made the ceremony feel even more personal.

Throughout the day, Aisling and Mike took moments to pause, breathe, and really take it all in – the Irish landscape, the al-fresco reception (despite the changeable weather!), and the rare feeling of being surrounded by every person who has supported them over their ten years together. Many guests made a holiday out of the trip, which added to the joy and sense of celebration in the air.

I was especially excited to capture their big day as it wasn’t the first time I met Aisling and Mike! I had photographed Aisling’s cousin’s wedding a few years before, and it meant so much to me to be invited back and celebrate with their families.
