It definitely was for Maeve and Charlie. Their wedding day was blessed with abundant sunshine, and even Charlie’s beloved dog was a special guest. As evening approached, a stunning sunset broke through for a brief five minutes during dinner, allowing for some relaxed and breathtaking portraits.
Burtown House: A Hidden Gem in Kildare
Burtown House is a hidden gem just on the outskirts of Athy. It’s one of the best wedding venues in Kildare. At its heart lies a beautiful Georgian villa, complemented by designer accommodations in the Stable Yard. The estate boasts lush gardens, a romantic fruit and vegetable garden, and the Green Barn restaurant, which serves organic produce. While the restaurant and gardens are open to the public, for a wedding, you can have the entire place to yourselves.
Burtown House Wedding Ceremony
The estate offers several enchanting spots for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The sundial garden, concealed behind green hedges, provides an intimate setting for exchanging vows. Alternatively, the courtyard outside the main house is ideal for a sunlit celebration. Maeve and Charlie chose the lawn between the house and the pond for their ceremony, taking advantage of the beautiful weather and the stunning surroundings.
Accommodation at Burtown House
For those wishing to stay overnight, Burtown House offers accommodation that can sleep up to eight people. The Stable Yard is a uniquely decorated three-bedroom house, full of character, featuring luxurious king-size beds, family art, and open fires. The Studio apartment offers a more modern feel, with high ceilings and large windows that open to a Mediterranean-style stable yard garden. This setting is perfect for couples and their close family to prepare for the wedding day.
Maeve and her family had their relaxed bridal morning in the Stable Yard. It’s not only cosy and convenient but also provides a stunning backdrop for your morning photos with the specially-curated designer details and textures.
The Green Barn at Burtown House
A highlight of any wedding at Burtown House is the reception at the Green Barn. This rustic, Scandinavian-inspired restaurant offers a visual and culinary feast. The food is a true delight, with produce picked fresh directly from the garden. The menu is seasonal, reflecting the farm-to-fork philosophy of the venue. Guests can enjoy dishes made from ingredients sourced from the walled kitchen garden, polytunnels, and surrounding fields.
Burtown House Wedding Cost
Burtown House hosts weddings all year round, but of course the gardens are especially lush and charming in late spring, summer and autumn. There is a minimum number of 60 guests for a Friday wedding and 80 guests on Saturdays. A venue hire fee of €3250 (at the time of writing) ensures that the venue is exclusively yours for the day. It also includes one drink per guest at your drinks reception, personalized menus and seasonal flowers from Burtown House decorating all spaces at the venue.
The dinner menu will be designed together with you, using seasonal produce from the gardens, and starts at €135 per person.
Burtown House is an absolute dream for wedding photos, with so many gorgeous spots to choose from. From vibrant gardens to charming little hidden corners, there’s no shortage of picture-perfect backdrops. One of the most magical moments from Maeve and Charlie’s day came during dinner when, out of nowhere, the sun broke through for just five minutes. I quickly grabbed them, and we captured the most beautiful, relaxed portraits in that golden light—such a perfect ending to an incredible day.
