It was a beautiful November day, one that you don’t often get in Ireland. I’ve always thought of October as the month for autumnal colours but the nature in Rathsallagh House took my breath away as soon as I arrived. I knew I was in for a treat!

When I asked Sarah and Donal why they chose Rathsallagh House in the first place, they said that a big selling point for them were the grounds. “The trees, Ivy and old walls are so beautiful. We want to have a lot of photos surrounding nature and have as much colour, trees, plants in them as possible, we would both prefer to have photos surrounded by nature rather than indoors”.

It’s not something you can always guarantee in autumn, what with the weather and an early sunset, but when you make it a priority things always work out! Both for practical and sentimental reasons, Sarah and Donal were very keen to do a first look. “We want to try and get time together during the day to ourselves and I’m excited about the first look because it’s just for us. It’s important we check in with each other and we don’t want too much fuss. The less we have to stress about on the day the better! I think from the start of planning we just wanted to keep things relaxed and for us to get time with our guests as well some time for just us.”

I love this approach, so we stuck to the plan! We did the first look in the intimate walled garden, accessible directly from the bridal suite. Afterwards we invited both families and wedding party to do all the formal photos before the ceremony. Sarah and Donal organized everything so perfectly we had lots of time for everything, and not rushing things or stressing about the light made all the difference!

The ceremony was held in the Grannery at Rathsallagh House, which Camelia from Austen Flowers filled with stunning arrangements and candles. The view was absolutely breathtaking and so perfect for a cosy autumnal wedding. And then it was time to party! With all the formalities completed Sarah and Donal could do what they wanted from the start – spend as much time as possible with people they loved and enjoy the day to its fullest!
